Adoption Process |
-
Families need to complete a psychological
evaluation prior to completion of their home study
-
Families complete a home study before
submitting their authenticated dossier to Dillon International
-
There is an urgent need for families open to
adopting a child over 3 years of age:
-
Families will wait approximately
2 - 4 years
for a referral of a child less than 4years old after their dossier is submitted
-
Families will wait
approximately 8 months - 24 months for a referral of a child
older than 4years old after their dossier is submitted
-
Both spouses must travel to Honduras to
receive their child and will make 2 trips to complete their child's
adoption in the Honduran court system
-
Families will make their first trip to meet
their child 1-2 weeks after accepting the assignment of their child.
Families will stay in Honduras 4-6 days to get to know their child and
to be interviewed by a social worker and a psychologist in Honduras
-
Families will then wait an additional 2-3 months
after their first trip to Honduras to receive their child's legal documents,
which will allow the family to travel to receive their child and
complete the adoption process The second trip to Honduras will
last approximately
4-6 weeks to finalize their child's adoption. Although both
spouses must travel for both trips, one parent may return to the U.S.,
if necessary, after the adoption decree has been signed during the
second trip to Honduras.
-
Families will be escorted by in-country,
bi-lingual adoption staff while in Honduras each time.
-
Families will re-finalize the child's adoption
in the U.S. after completing 3 post-placement visits with the family's
caseworker
SPECIAL NOTE on US Citizenship:
Since both parents travel to receive their child and complete the adoption in
Honduras, the child will be considered a U.S. citizen upon entering the United
States.
