This program is offered through Buckner Adoption & Maternity Services, an affiliate of Dillon International.

A recent UNICEF report stated that more than 4.5 million of Ethiopia's children are orphaned due to poverty and illness.  This means that more than one child in 10 is an orphan. Additionally, the maternal mortality rate for pregnant women is very high -- 1 in 14 women will die in childbirth.  Buckner International has supported Bright Hope ministry in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, since 2000.  In 2007, Buckner assumed the organization and has since then expanded the services to at-risk children and families within the local community.  Buckner Adoption & Maternity Services began placing children from Ethiopia in 2007. 

Effective July 1, 2011, a temporary hold was placed on accepting new applications from families desiring to adopt a child less than 4 years old from Ethiopia.  Buckner Adoption is maintaining a wait list of families who would like to be contacted when they resume accepting applications to adopt younger children.  Please email the Ethiopia Program Director with your name and email address to be placed on the wait list.
